On December 5, ATN held its 4th Annual Award Show in Hamburg, Germany. The show that was broadcast by ATN on December 18th and 19th was in recognition of Afghanistan’s well-known musicians as well as new talents. Two hundred fifty musicians from all over the world were invited to the show. Afghan celebrities such as Farhad Darya, Ustad Khyal, Ustad Arman, Ustad Abdul Wahab Madadi, Mr. & Mrs. Mehryar, Ustad Mahwash, Zahir Howaida, Mukhtar Majeed and many other were among the guests.
The show was hosted by Dr. Asad Badi, a well known musician whose talent in speech is not less than his musical endowment. The custom of ATN Award show is to recognize those who have worked hard for years and have gained fame by their generous contribution to musical industry. The program also introduces new talents who just stepped in to start this long journey. The program includes four main parts that’s designated to selecting the “Best Male Singer”, “Best Female singer”, “Best New Male” & “Best Female singer”. In addition, every year the “Afgan Star” and “Life Time Achievement” awards are given to our honorable musicians as well as a few other awards in recognition of “Best Video Clip”, “Best Ghazal” and “Best Song” of the year. Next to the presentations of the awards, several artists perform their new and old hits among the audience.
This year ATN’s main award was given to Farhad Darya recognizing his hard work and tireless effort during the year 2009. As Darya’s name was announced and he went to the stage singing the song “Atan” the audience were standing, clapping and expressing their feelings for his achievement. Darya’s feeling while performing the song “atan” was very revealing that everyone can tell he has so much passion and enthusiasms when it comes to performing for the people of Afghanistan and rebuilding that wounded land. The “Best Singer of the Year 2009” Award was presented to the all time shinning star, Farhad Darya by Engineer Ehsanullah Bayat. Following that, Darya had a brief speech to express his thoughts and feelings towards fans and his companions in his artistic life.
“Atan”, a song that became a hit, reached many hearts and played everywhere is one of the greatest songs recorded by Darya. The lyrics of the song “Atan” is the work of two great poets and writers Dr. Samey Hamed and Yama Nasher Yakmanesh. The song is composed by Darya and its recording was done in India and Germany. “Atan’s” video clip was released during the presidential campaign, with the purpose to encourage people to participate in the elections of a country that belongs to every afghan and everyone has the right to thoughtfully vote for the one who could make a difference for a better future. “Atan” spreads out the message of peace and unity, it invites people to get together to re-build Afghanistan.
After presenting the Award to Mr. Darya the show ended while all artists gathered on the stage to take a photo to be remained as a memory of the ATN’s 4th Annual Award Show.

I am delighted that finally Afghans appreciated this man’s work. He is a True Music Icon. He is one of the only Afghan musician with down to earth personality who have always come with new music, amazing work, fresh lyrics and execptional and distinctive videos from time to time. His work is unparallel but unfortunately this is the first time he got this recognition while he should have long long time ago. No one else has ever been so deserving as him.

Zak- This is not Darya’s first time to be “best singer of the year”; however if you are talking just about the recent years I agree that his outstanding work wasn’t not recognized by afghan media.

let me tell you all, that we as afghans should be proud of this gifted and admirable talent. imagine if he was an american or european how famous they would make him with his excetional talent and ever beautiful voice, but unfortunatly due to war and all that hard time our lovely country went through, its sad that all of the world don’t him. for me he is right up there among the best artists of the world even ahead of them.
love you Darya, u are a unique treasure that luckly we have today.
